NITEL/MTEL retirees and retirees have denounced the alleged refusal/delay by the Federal Mortgage Bank in Abuja to grant them their housing loans which they claim were deducted from their salaries while they were actively working as as company staff.

In a statement signed and made available to THISDAY on behalf of the retirees by former Senior Officer 1 (Technologist) of NITEL, Mr. Samuel Urubusi, who is also a retired employee, the retirees also expressed their anger over non-payment of housing funds. than their pension arrears.

He said about 3,000 of the 11,000 NITEL/MTEL retirees have secured their housing funds, while others are still awaiting theirs; ask why some retirees have gotten their refund, and others haven’t gotten theirs yet.

He added that the PTAD has yet to release the 83 month pension arrears to NITEL/MTEL retirees although they are reflected in the 2020 budget, while other companies like NICON Insurance, Nigerian Airways , among others, have been paid since 2019.

“We therefore appeal for the urgent intervention of the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Ms. Zainab Ahmed, who is also a former employee of NITEL and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in this matter in order to save the lives of pensioners and their families due to non-payment of housing funds, accumulated pension arrears and delay in payment of our monthly pension,” the statement read.
